Which Golf Ball Is Right For You?

Posted by Golf Local On May - 21 - 2010Equipment Review

There are a lot of golf balls on the market: Titleist, Callaway, Nike, Top Flite and the list goes on and on. But there are only a few that will suit your game. We have broke it down into two groups based on overall skill level:

  • Skilled/Competitve Player
  • Recreational or Weekend Golfer

Skilled/Competitve Player

Ideally the skilled/competitive players have a low handicap – maybe 10 or lower and tend to swing the club head 90 mph or faster. The ball should have lesser compression offering greater spin to suit these players. We recommend the Titleist Pro V1 (Pro V1x), Callaway HX Tour IX / Callaway HX Tour Black & Bridgestone B330.

Titleist Pro V1 (Pro V1x)

Key Features

– Golf Digest voted this ball as the best for price and performance
– Wave parting line resulting in improved ball flight and greater hitting distance
– 392 dimple design for greater consistency over long distances
– The V1x is a 4-piece golf ball that offers a 332 dimple design

Callaway HX TourCallaway HX Tour IX / Callaway HX Tour Black

Ideally the recreational/weekend players have a higher handicap – maybe 15 or higher and tend to swing the club a lot less consistent compared to the competitive players. The ball should have a larger compression core offering greater distance and control for these players. We recommend the Titleist NXT , Bridgestone E5 & Nike One Vapor.

Great article! I love hitting the Callaway HX Series golf balls. Smooth hit on the drive and fairway. Little touchy on the greens but once you practice with them it becomes much more easier. Perfect ball! I have never played with Nike golf balls. Any comments or reviews?
