Course Info

Bristol Harbour Resort, recognized by Golf Digest and The American Golfers Guide as one of the top public facilities in the state, is a premier, full service destination golf facility. This Robert Trent Jones design is just as well known for its championship layout, as it is for the amazing views of Canandaigua Lake and the surrounding hillsides. The well-maintained course offers a sharp contrast between the front and back nine. While the front nine consists of open views of the lake, the back nine is cut through the woods and offers beautiful scenery of the rolling Bristol hills. The best part about the course is that although it is challenging, it is designed to be playable for all skill levels.

Bristol Harbours also offers a full-service pro shop and staff that can accommodate the needs of every visitor, from the individual golfer, to those attending corporate outings and charity events.  Planning your next golf event is made easy when using their assigned personal event coordinator to assist in all aspects of your event, from the pre-planning stages through the post tournament wrap-up.

The practice facility, complete with grass and artificial tees, putting green, chipping area and bunkers, opens one hour prior to the first tee time so getting loose prior to your round is never an issue. In addition to their top-notch practice facility, Bristol Harbour Resort offers golf schools taught by PGA Professional Greg Mulhern.  Clinics and golf schools are designed to teach both adults and juniors and are designed to improve your long and short game. All schools and clinics are available throughout the summer.

Home of the “Rain Guarantee” Bristol Harbour will give you a rain check equal to the value of 2 tiers (a $15 value) if is 1/8th inch of rain or more during your round. You will get the rain check even if you complete your round and it is valid for 9 months.

As a member of the Finger Lakes Golf Trail, you can play Bristol Harbour, Greystone, Mill Creek and Ravenwood for one low price. The card never expires and is valid anytime Monday – Thursday, Friday before 11 a.m., and Saturday – Sunday after noon.

With several improvements to enhance the course’s natural challenges and increase its playability, Bristol Harbour Resort not only offers a sensational layout but is one of Rochester’s most beautiful courses as well.

Best Features

Some of Bristol Harbour’s best features include:

  • Public course in private course conditions – fairways & greens in excellent condition
  • Pace of play fits all levels of play

Online Instruction with Brian Jacobs Golf

Posted by Golf Local On July - 31 - 2011

Online coaching is a new concept in the “world of golf” and has the potential of revolutionizing private golf instruction as it is known today. In the day of multimedia communication and electronic mediums this path of instruction “just makes sense” for some people who respond well to visual instruction. With e-coaching your instructor (if qualified) has the potential to offer instruction to you without being with you personally for example, when you are on the road traveling for business or vacation or if you have minimal time to arrange a private meeting with your instructor.

You can simply shoot video both down the line and face on (see example below) with any hand held device such as your iPhone, then send to your locker with Online Skills Coach and your selected instructor will receive an email indicating that you have sent a video that needs to be coached. The video can be shot both indoors or outdoors, on the range, golf course, practice green or bunkers;  videos have been received to be coached that have even been recorded in students’ living rooms at their homes!

The instructor, as part of his or her agreement with Online Skills Coach, must within 48 hours of receipt, coach your video with voiceover and return to you with comments, text and/or drills attached that have been personally recorded by your instructor indicating the path he/she may want you to take to improve or work on in the coming days or weeks. The coached video remains in your locker for a total of one year so you can review over and over again at your convenience; this is an added benefit because many times we as students get off track and this is a way for the student to constantly review what needs to be done at their own convenience.

In the Greater Rochester Area, Brian Jacobs is the only Hank Haney Certified Ecoach Pro and currently coach players from all over the United States, Canada and overseas. His “Estudents” have progressed incredibly well and are just as committed to improvement as the students he teaches in his golf schools and private instruction.

There are a variety of reasons for why people choose ecoaching for example, time constraints or as a continuation of instruction for out of state/country students that have attended a golf school; many Estudents progress at the same or more rapid rates and in some cases Brian Jacobs has received as many as 3-4 videos a month from some  Estudents. He has been asked a number of times if he feels that ecoaching will “take over” traditional instruction and he  replies, “no” but there is a place for this type of instruction for a number of people who again, would prefer to be coached in this manner.

Brian Jacobs is always open to learning and implementing anything that he believes will help his students get better and develop consistency and this is definitely another tool that he can use to assist his students in constant progress. In Brian Jacobs way of thinking for our area of the country this is a great way to stay “tuned up” in the winter months and he has used this program for players that he coached that play the Mini Tours in Arizona when snow is on the ground here and for athletes that are preparing for college golf. The coaches from colleges can simply view the video in the student locker with his voiceover and the process of recruiting or student improvement can continue to be as smooth as possible.

In the coming months he will be creating a program with his Performance Coach, Corey Taylor (www.CoreyTaylor.net) where he can also ecoach his students and build drop down programs that can be done at home or a gym to assist the student in being golf fit for the off season, pre-season and in season all based on video that is sent via Online Skills Coach.

This program is a tremendous way to learn at your own pace or support previous learning at one of his golf schools or private instructional training sessions and Brian Jacobs would encourage you to research this further. He is always available to answer your questions either through his website www.BrianJacobsGolf.com or on twitter @brianjacobsgolf and he looks forward to the coming months as he continues this series of articles with Golf Local on topics of interest that to golf instruction.

Need Golf Lessons – Try Hank Haney Certified Brian Jacobs

Brian Jacobs possesses Ms Ed and PGA credentials and has devoted the past 23 years to educating youth in the Rochester City School District. He has been awarded local, state and national teaching awards for his excellence in education in addition he has been recognized by the PGA Foundation for growth of the game of golf.

Brian was trained in the Western New York Section as he served the memberships at Midvale Country Club, Locust Hill Country Club and The Country Club of Rochester as an Assistant Golf Professional. Brian served as the Assistant Director of Instruction at The Victory Golf Academy at Ravenwood Golf Club where he taught all levels and ability of player and currently instructs 2010 Carolina Player of the Year and Gateway Tour Player Tom Muto, Jr. Brian worked as a Lead Instructor for ESPN Golf Schools where he trained under Hank Haney. Brian is a Hank Haney Golf Certified Instructor, being 1 of 4 Instructors Worldwide to possess the certification of Level 3. He continues to be mentored by Hank and his staff.

In addition to being an effective teacher Brian is an accomplished player and competes in a limited tournament schedule in the Western New York Section. In 2000 Brian was Medalist for the PGA Players Ability Test shooting 71-67. Brian has caddied in the United States Amateur and on the LPGA Tour where his experiences allow him to bring an “inside the ropes” perspective to his students regarding course management and managing one’s self within a round of golf.

Brian is committed to staying current with his teaching methods while educating, empowering and improving the students in his charge and is proud to represent Nike Golf as a Staff Professional.

When referring to the full swing there are many theories and approaches says Brain. “I would recommend that each player pay close attention to 3 things, first their grip. Always remember that the grip is the primary control of the clubface and if it is too strong or too weak the clubface (if the player swings the club on the proper swing plane) will have difficulty squaring at impact. I teach a neutral grip that at address creates a square clubface where the grip is out of the fingers and in the palm more which creates a more stable clubface. Second, from a right hand perspective, your left hand is the face of the golf club, if it is cupped at the top of the swing your left forearm, in general, will reverse at impact and create too high ball flight with a slice or you may top the ball because so much loft is added at impact. If the left hand is bowed at the top of the swing the clubface will, in general, be closed at impact creating a very low ball flight and a pull hook or hook. The left hand and left wrist at the top of the swing need to be flat (square) to the club face which in general will create a flat left wrist at impact. Lastly, pay attention to your ball flight it will tell you about your swing plane. A high ball flight that moves straight to the left (from a right handed perspective) or starts left and moves to the right (slice) are results from an upright swing plane or steep swing plane; the plane of the swing is above the plane angle you set  at address. A ball flight that too low and moves from the right of the intended target then curves well left of the target (hook) is a result of a flat swing plane; the plane of the swing is under the plane angle you have set at address. In my way of thinking an on plane swing will produce a draw (a ball that starts just right of the intended target and moves to the target); the plane of the swing is on the plane angle you have set at address.”

Saturday Golf Association Turns on the Heat in 2011

Posted by Golf Local On March - 9 - 2011

Starting its 56 season the SGA headed by President, Jeffrey LaBelle has a solid new 2011 – 24 week “Pay As You Play” Tour starting April 23rd at Ravenwood Golf Club. Adding Livingston Country Club and Bristol Harbor as first time stops and returning stops as in Clifton Springs, Blue Heron Hills Golf Club and Country Club of Mendon rounds out a outstanging tour.

With over 190+ members, they average 91 players in 2010 for 24 weeks. The SGA has a lot of room for growth, according to Jeff. SGA is still after a big private course  to open their doors and give them a Saturday morning or afternoon to enjoy the revenue from the SGA  members. Please visit www.saturdaygolfassoc.org  to learn more about the Saturday Golf Association.
